Fruit of the earth,
work of human hands
We believe we need
to repair our broken
agricultural policies.
We are called to build
a new, just framework
that serves family farms
and rural communities,
promotes renewed
stewardship of the land,
overcomes hunger and
malnutrition where these
persist, and helps farmers
and vulnerable families
in developing countries.

Agriculture and Food Issues
|
|
Agriculture is not only how we grow food, but
how we treat those who bring food to our tables.
Catholic teaching about the dignity of work
tells us that farmers must be able to support
themselves and their families through their work.
This means that they must be able to survive the risks
associated with production and price fluctuations in
the market. We recognize the great pain and stress
experienced when a family loses its farm.
Their loss is our loss.
Agriculture is about rural communities and the
quality of life in small towns surrounded by farmland.
What policies and programs are needed to maintain
viable, innovative and family-friendly rural areas?
