Inspired by the work of Luigi Ligutti during the mid-20th century, this program is dedicated to educating and assisting rural families and communities as they deal with economic and social change in rural Iowa. The structure of agriculture no longer favors independent farmers, so rural areas in Iowa are in transition to different ways of livelihoods. Guided by principles of economic justice, compassion, sustainability, and respect for human dignity, this program assists rural communities in creating hope for their future. The program provides resources and tools for local people to make transitions within rural areas, identify assets, build statewide links and create genuine alternatives.
