Remembering César Chávez
Born: March 31, 1927
Died: April 23, 1993

The National Catholic Rural Life Conference recognizes and celebrates the life of César Chávez who fought for the dignity and social justice of farm workers. March 31st is César Chávez Day, a day to remember the struggles of farm workers in the United States and to reflect on the morality of our food system.

César Chávez said, "Every time we sit at a table at night or in the morning to enjoy the fruits and grains and vegetables from our good earth, remember that they come from the work of men and women and children who have been exploited for generations."

Also, remember farm workers everyday …

We join with the National Farm Worker Ministry in the spirit that farm workers do not seek retribution for their exploitation, but reconciliation: "Farm workers do not seek to take all the power for themselves, as the agribusiness companies do. Rather, they hope to heal a damaged industry."
