This 40-acre learning center for reinhabiting the Earth includes 30 acres of woodland, gardens, farm house, and oratory. The center provides a place to learn the new scientific Story of our unfolding universe and seek the ways to live in harmony with the whole Earth community. Its primary practice in human-Earth relationship is the recovery of Crystal Spring Farm. Its five-year old, certified organic community supported agriculture (CSA) program was allowed to lie fallow this season as they explore possibilities and clarify a vision of agriculture that is consistent with the land and the place. However, their commitment to community supported agriculture, to growing local organic food, to protecting local land for agricultural use and to supporting the return of young men and women to the art of sacred agriculture remains firm. The garden is a source of community organizing by providing fresh food to shareholders, service and educational opportunities to local college students, and education about food and local food systems through festivals, potlucks, cooperation with a local health food store, and distribution of organic produce. They continue in a conscious way their own seed saving work and herb gardens started two years ago. Adult programs include earth literacy, cosmology, cooking as a conscious act of planetary healing, retreats, and festivals at the beginning of each earth season. A summer childrens event is held each summer. [2003] |
