This 25 acres of woodland, pond, wetland area, and open space is home to Knowles Mercy Spirituality Center and a vacation house for the Sisters of Mercy along the Platte River. In concern about the impacts of impending urban sprawl and in keeping with the Direction Statement of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, (we are committed) "to act in harmony and interdependence with all of creation," a three-sister Mercy Earth Project (MEP) committee is developing a land management plan that will "preserve, protect and restore the land to its natural state." Goals of MEP are to (1) articulate to those who visit the Spirituality Center a sense of God’s presence through the spirituality of earth and its relationship to Mercy, and (2) educate the public about the value of the land and how to maintain it while being respectful of the relationships between wildlife, plant life, and humans. Land management being considered includes: restored prairie, wetlands improvement, wildlife viewing areas, raised garden beds for flowers and vegetables, tree plantings, and interpretive signs. [2003]
