This 226-acre tract includes 86 acres in woodland, pond, and wetlands in conservation easements, an Ecological Learning Center committed to healing the deep spiritual alienation between people and the earth, a modified macrobiotic diet cooking school stressing the use of regionally grown and seasonal foods, and an organic gardening school. Produce raised on its 30 acres of biodynamically-managed crop and orchard provides produce for 200 local families through its community supported agriculture (CSA) program and its ecological learning center. The farm also connects local farmers with local markets and distributes produce from other farmers through its CSA. The learning center offers a graduate certificate program in earth literacy and a variety of other programs for all ages including solstice, equinox, and harvest celebrations and workshops integrating a new cosmology into life, sustainable futures, feminist spirituality, and seasonal retreats. The New Jersey Farmland Preservation Program purchased perpetual development rights on 140 acres and the state’s Green Acres program is considering the purchase of development rights on the other 86 acres. Its Guardians of the Seed Stock project helps maintain plant diversity. [2003]
