GREAT NEWS!
This is an abbreviated Interfaith Climate and Energy Bulletin to share with you some great news. First, I acknowledge the senior religious leaders in our state who have accepted invitations to help lead the Iowa Interfaith Power & Light initiative for the next several months. Second, the first Iowa showing of The Great Warming has been organized and will take place May 4 in Cedar Falls. Dates and sites of other showings are pending. Watch for more information.
IIP&L STEERING COMMITTEE NAMED
The Iowa Interfaith Power & Light (IIP&L) initiative began taking shape in February 2006 as a joint initiative of Muslim, Christian, Jewish and other faith communities in the state to mitigate global climate change and thus protect Gods sacred creation and safeguard public health. The focus of IIP&L activities and services will be directed to helping individual congregations (churches, synagogues, mosques, centers) reduce fossil fuel use, improve energy efficiency, and reduce overall energy use.
Senior religious leaders who have accepted invitations to help lead IIP&L over the next several months are: Brother David Andrews, CSC, executive director, National Catholic Rural Life Conference, Des Moines; Reverend Philip Barrett, general presbyter, Presbytery of Des Moines, Presbyterian Church (USA); Most Reverend Joseph P. Charron, CPPS, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines; Imam Ibrahim Dremali, Des Moines Islamic Center; Sister Helen Elsbernd, FSPA, Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Hiawatha; Bishop Philip L. Hougen, Southeastern Iowa Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Iowa City; Reverend Larry McGuire, president, Inter-Religious Council of Linn County and president, Cedar Valley-Nauvoo Mission Center, Community of Christ, Cedar Rapids; Bruce Murphy, PhD, president, Northwestern College, Orange City; and Right Reverend Alan Scarfe, bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Iowa, Des Moines.
Watch this bulletin for more details about how your congregation can join IIP&L and its work.

THE GREAT WARMING COMING TO CEDAR FALLS; SPREAD THE WORD
Early reviews have called The Great Warming "the best film about global warming ever produced." Narrated by Alanis Morissette and Keanu Reeves, The Great Warming sweeps around the world to reveal how a changing climate is affecting the lives of people everywhere. The Great Warming includes statements from scientists and opinion-leaders as well as a blunt assessment of Americas leadership or lack thereof - in what is the most critical environmental issue of the 21st century. The film examines evidence that human activities are provoking an unprecedented era of atmospheric warming and climatic events: more drought, wildfires and flooding, polar melting, more powerful storms and more variable weather. The Great Warming also showcases initiatives aimed at reversing the trend toward permanent damage to our planet, as well as scenes documenting the emerging voice of Americas religious community urging action on climate change from pulpits across the country.
The attached documents provide more details and have been prepared for distribution to congregations in the Cedar Falls area. Please share these documents among those who may be interested in attending.
